Sides

Whilst this is our option one build, it should not be confused with a “shed” type construction, as each one of our playhouses are hand built in our workshops in Herefordshire and we only use superior quality materials.  Initially a framework is built using 50mm x 38mm redwood timber with rounded edges. To this we fix, using galvanised brads, good quality redwood shiplap timber; this makes the side panels. These panels are then sanded and treated on the outside using two coats of Sadolin wood preservative. These are then fitted together on site, a clear silicon seal is applied to all the corners.

This level of build is a popular option as it gives the additional benefits of a damp proof membrane in the walls and a smooth surface on the inside that is suitable for decoration. Initially a framework is built using 50mm x 38mm redwood timber with rounded edges. On the outside of this we fit, using galvanised pins, 6mm wbp external plywood followed by a damp poof membrane and then good quality redwood shiplap, this makes the side panels. These panels are then sanded and treated on the outside using two coats of Sadolin wood preservative. These are then fitted together on site, a clear silicon seal is applied to all the corners.

This is our highest level of build, the playhouse will have a damp proof membrane in the walls, full insulation and flat plywood lined walls on the inside with architrave around the doors and windows and skirting board around the bottom of the walls.

Roof

The roof is built to withstand the English climate; 75mm x 50mm bearers are put across from side to side. Screwed to these bearers is 12mm external quality plywood covered with a base layer of waterproof membrane and then a top layer of 38kg mineral felt, using stainless steel staples. The felt is wrapped over the front and back and sealed behind the facia board.

Screwed to these bearers is 12mm external quality plywood covered with 2 base coats of waterproof membrane and then a top layer of felt shingles giving the appearance of tiles. The felt is wrapped over the front and back and sealed behind the facia board; there is also a ridge board fitted along the top ridge, these boards can be either straight or shaped.

Windows

The windows are built as separate units; once they have been sanded and treated they are glazed and then fitted and sealed using clear silicon into the frame. These windows are glazed with 2mm polycarbonate sheet, this is completely clear, will not fade or become brittle with time, it is 200 times the strength of glass making it virtually shatter proof.

The opening window is hinged on either the right of left using a stainless steel piano hinge and our special non trap design. When the window is in the closed position there is a taper between the casement and frame so should any little fingers be in the way they will not get pinched. The casements are held using a brass handle and casement stay.
